Class >> DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCTION -

Dive into the world of digital filmmaking with this intensive, hands-on video course that takes beginners through all phases of production.

Topics include:
Treatments, storyboards, camera operation, producing and directing techniques and an introduction to digital editing using Final Cut Pro. The class shoots and edits their projects in small teams. Perfect for the beginner who wants to discover the digital process.

Class size limited to 12. Class meets for 8 weeks 7-9:30pm - Fall 2009 dates TBA.

Class >> FINAL CUT PRO - Digital Video Editing

Learn the essentials of the industry-leading desktop video editing program Final Cut Pro. This course provides lessons and practice in the following core areas:

Importing and exporting footage, the editing tool set, audio, titles, scaling and moving video, color correction, filters and effects, compression and more.

Class size limited to 12. Class meets for 6 weeks 7-9:30pm - TUESDAYS starting June 2 and ending July 7, 2009.

SEMINAR> FILM A-Z - KNOW MORE!
One day seminar about the filmmaking process! Presented in conjunction with DETROIT SHORTS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL.

SUNDAY MAY 31, 10am-4pm at 1515 Broadway, downtown Detroit.

FILM A-Z is a one-day targeted seminar focusing on the practical aspects of independent filmmaking in SE Michigan. Do you have great ideas but don’t know where to start? Some of the many questions answered are -  Do I have to move to NY or LA, or can I make my film here? Where can I find equipment and crew persons in SE Michigan? How much does it cost to make a film? Where can I find funding sources?  Is it necessary to shoot in film or is digital video the way to go? What do I need to know about high definition? These questions and more are presented in an intensive 6 hour presentation with a lengthy Q & A.  Actual case studies will be examined. Lunch provided.

Class >> FILM 1 - 16MM FILMMAKING

Dive into the world of 16MM filmmaking with this intensive, hands-on video course that takes beginners through all phases of production. Each student produces their own silent short film on 16mm film with post production in Final Cut Pro.

Topics include: Basic cinematography, exposure, light meters, film stocks, treatments, storyboards, 16mm camera operation, producing and directing techniques and an introduction to digital editing using Final Cut Pro. Perfect for the beginner or expereinces digital filmmaker who wants expereicne in 16mm.

Students are responsible for material costs which will vary. The typical 3 minute film will cost approximately $180 to produce. Students may pool resources and work in groups.

Class size limited to 12. Class meets for 13 weeks 7-9:30pm - TUESDAYS starting JUNE 2 and ending AUGUST 25, 2009.

Class >> SCREENWRITING

Get moving with your movie ideas! In this course you will work toward writing the first draft of a screenplay. Individuals will study successful screenplays that have been made into films and will learn how to organize raw ideas and transform them into standard script format. Characterization, plotting, theme, metaphor, script formatting, and pacing will be discussed.

Participants will receive feedback on their work through group discussion and also on an individual basis with the instructor.

Class size limited to 20. Class meets for 8 weeks 7-9:30pm - WEDNESDAYS starting JUNE 3 and ending JULY 22, 2009.
